Road Trip – Cairns to Darwin 2023 – Day 1

So time to head home, we been watching the weather maps and we should be right if the low keeps moving in the same direction.

We get up early and leave by 6am. Get some fuel on the way and make it to Cardwell for a break.

Still watching the weather and road reports. Road to NT still open at this stage, and low expected to move quickly to South East.
For those who need proof, yes we are still alive.

Made to Townsville and road to NT still open. Bit worried about low. At least the fuel prices have dropped.

Stop for lunch just outside Charters Towers. Checking the road report and road to NT has closed. The report for the Low is that is should still move quickly away.

Should we do a U-turn or keep going? We choose to keep going a bit more, plan to wait at Julia Creek etc, and be a day up when road opens.

Listening to radio and reports as we drive, reports are coming in now. Records rains! Radar showing Low is not moving! Do we or dont we?

We turn around and head back to Cairns, and start to look at flights to Darwin
